Description
“It’s not what Indi doesn’t have or what she can’t do; it’s what she does have and what she can do.”
Indiana Mary Harman is like any other three year old little girl. She has white blonde hair that curls at the nape of her neck, bright blue eyes that are both inquisitive and intense, and rosebud pink lips that are always at the ready for a smile. She loves The Wiggles, lights up at the sound of her mummy’s voice in the mornings, giggles at her daddy’s funny faces. Little Indi has Cerebral Palsy.
Like any parent of a three year old, Sharon and Ben have big dreams for their little girl. Sometimes these dreams cost a little extra because of Indi’s disability. Because of this they fundraise for her therapies, special equipment and medical expenses.
Indiana’s Story
Indiana had a tough start to the world, right from the womb. Her little brain suffered multiple seizures from birth which ultimately led to her condition which is Cerebral Palsy and brain injury.
She spent three months at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, while Sharon and Ben watched over her anxiously, but always with love.
During her time in hospital, Indi never gave up her fight; she fought with all her little body.
Her determination and will was only matched by the love that surrounded her from family and friends, and against all odds, she was able to go home almost three months after she was born.
A tough start it may have been, but since then, Indi has defied medical expectations. She can sit unaided, reach with intention for a toy, her baby brother has helped in so many ways with her development; sibling love is amazing at any age.
This year Indi started at Xavier Conductive Education in Brisbane. She attends the special school two days a week and loves seeing her little friends. Here she paints, works very hard with her exercises and enjoys playtime.
Together with her mum and dad she practices her exercises fervently, strengthening her muscles; her teachers think she is just a delight.
She may have CP, but at three and thriving, she is proving every day that she is so much more than her disability.
Indiana’s Needs
Most of our target will go towards the vital therapies Indi attends on a daily basis. While this is an intensive time for Indi and our family, it is widely understood that early intervention will provide the best chance for Indi to become as independent as possible and your assistance will help us to give her the best opportunity to achieve her potential.
Any support you are able to offer is very much appreciated as it all counts. For more information on helping out or if you have a question for Team Indi please email Sharon-harman@hotmail.com or phone Sharon on 0416 298 452.
